About.com, a Top 10 property that is part of The New York Times Company, is seeking a General Manager to head up our Health business, located in our New York City headquarters. About.com Health is the 3rd largest source for consumer health information on the Internet. This executive position will be responsible for overseeing strategy and development of About.com Health as a top destination and brand for advertisers and consumers alike.
The ideal candidate has extensive consumer health publishing experience, a proven track record leading a high performance team, and a superior ability managing and developing a business. The General Manager will collaborate with our Sales, Editorial, Technology, Marketing, Finance, and Product teams to raise awareness of the About.com Health brand and to create the most comprehensive resource for credible health content on the Internet.
Responsibilities:
– Candidate will be responsible for hiring and managing a core team of individuals to run the About.com Health division of About Inc.
– Candidate will be responsible for the development of the About.com Health content, product offerings, and design.
– Candidate will lead the development of About.com Health’s processes and policies to ensure they meet the highest editorial standards.
– Candidate will represent the company at industry events, conferences, and in trade publications raising awareness of About.com Health’s offerings and strengths.
Requirements:
– Minimum 10+ years of professional experience and 5+ years experience in the consumer health sector, preferably online. Candidate must be able to communicate a significant understanding of the health industry and the challenges and opportunities facing About.com Health.
– Proven track record of managing and growing businesses in a fast-paced environment.
– Must be able to work effectively in a matrixed, multitask style organization.
– Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.
– MBA or equivalent degree preferred.
