St. Louis-based Vivid Sky has announced the SkyBox service to provide enhanced viewing at sporting events. The service is coupled with a 17 ounce device that connects via WiFi and gives fans at sporting events full access to player stats, instant replays, and in the case of NASCAR events in car radio chatter. SkyBox intends to extend the same enhanced viewing experience to those attending the actual event that home viewers on TV have grown accustomed to having at hand. The company is in talks with MLB, NFL and NBA franchises to make the SkyBox available to fans in the near future. Fans rent the SkyBox as they enter the event for $10 – $20 or PDA owners can use their own device for $3 – $5. Sweet.
Sprint is about to announce a scanner called FanView that will be deployed at NASCAR event allowing the same type of access to additional stats and in-car cameras. FanView will run $50 a day or $70 for an entire race weekend.
