Cingular Launches New Concert-Content For Video Phones

Cingular is creating a series of concerts specifically to record them and sell the resulting music video content on their mobile phones…This is one way for telcos to avoid all those messy discussions about rights and revenue share with content providers. A more generous way of looking at it is that this type of action will provide a boost to the content — the telcos show what can be done so the content providers are more willing to come on board and invest in the area.
Cingular’s effort (Cingular Sounds Live) will coincide with the release of its on-demand streaming video service Cingular Video (and I appreciate the fact they’ve avoided the silly-name trap). “The music program debuted in Los Angeles Thursday with a performance by Reggaeton artist Daddy Yankee and pop musical group, The Pussycat Dolls.”
