One in three mobile owners reportedly live in Brazil, Russia, India and China, collectively known as BRIC.
“Collectively, the four markets will account for 650 million mobile owners in 2006 rising to 1089 million owners in 2007 (identified as unique individuals owning mobile phones as opposed to the number of subscriptions).”
In terms of mobile content the countries aren’t that significant yet because the markets mostly focus on basic voice and messaging services (well, pretty much all countries are in that boat but BRIC countries even more so), however the sheer volume of people means even a small content ARPU relates to signficant revenue.
“Although ARPU in these countries is relatively low compared to more developed economies, BRIC mobile content revenue will surpass $1 billion in 2007, with China accounting for nearly 70% of the share.”
