.Mobi Developer’s Guide Published

mTLD LogomTLD has released a developers guide for the .mobi top level domain space, which “provides mandatory rules and highly recommended best practices for content developers and mobiles supporting website owners, ensuring that their websites can be optimally accessed by any mobile device”.
This is the guide for web browsing (available online here) and is reportedly the first in a series of Switch On Guides. The mandatory registrant rules include that a webpage for a URL with a “second-level domain name or second and third level domain name (e.g. example.mobi, http://www.example.mobi, de.example.mobi) the response must be encoded in XHTML-MP unless the device accessing it is known to support an alternative choice of markup.”
Also URLs that do not include “www” must work, and no site is allowed to have frames — I agree totally with that last one. Then there’s a whole series of “highly recommended best practices”…
