It seems funny that an entity which has already moved into mobile in a big way is now talking about wallpapers and ringtones, but that’s what the BBC’s latest deal with UK operator Orange is about.
“The service, to be launched today, will initially offer wallpapers, ringtones and video clips from The Office, Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, The League of Gentlemen, Goodness Gracious Me, Doctor Who and Little Britain. BBC Worldwide is hoping to include other shows as the year progresses…BBC Worldwide’s director of business development, Jason Blain, said the deal had taken a considerable amount of time and effort as the company had to navigate the complex web of rights that govern shows such as Little Britain. He said he hoped legitimate BBC content on mobiles would put an end to the unauthorised content currently available.”
The clips and ringtones will cost less than a pound.
