Work in progress. Disney CEO Bob Iger wasn’t bluffing when he said the call would cover a lot of ground. He started with a few words about the attack on ABC News staffers Bob Woodruff and Doug Vogt, addressed the proposed ABC Radio merger with Citadel, reviewed the Pixar deal and that was just the beginning. Lost of attention on the “first mover” deal with Apple iTunes both during prepared remarks and q&a. We’ve posted the full audio. Some highlights:
– Disney is stating to see some results from its self-published video games, shipping 2.2 million units tied to “The Chronicles of Narnia.” Iger: “Because of our strategic shift to self publishing, we’re capturing a much higher percentage of the gross receipts than we did under previous licensing relationships.”
– Iger: Owning scripted shows “provides us with enormous opportunities to pursue new business models domestically and internationally.”
– Iger once again warned analysts that Disney is being managed for the long term, not the quarter, citing the iTunes’ deal as an example and describing it as “a clear example of our vision for the digital future.”
