We missed this one earlier: Wal-Mart Germany is to launch an MVNO called “Mango Mobile” and will be available in all Wal-Mart stores in Germany. Mango Mobile is supported by a company called Facey Retail Solutions GmbH, which is the German subsidiary of a distributor of handsets and provider of telecom solutions based in Miami.
This development follows MVNO offerings from two of the biggest discount retails in Germany — Aldi and Tchibo — and the introduction of a number of sub-brands by the network operator E-Plus in an increasingly hard-fought German mobile market.
RCR: “Wal-Mart is already a popular retailer and distributor of prepaid cards and mobile phones in Europe,” noted Current Analysis analyst Bena Roberts, who said the service is also expected to launch in the United Kingdom. “MangoMobile will enhance its presence by offering unique shop-in-shop services for mobile operators. Hence, a channel strategy for a new service is already in place and over 150 million prepaid cards are already sold in stores per year.”
