In what is being touted as a first, CBS has gone direct with the sale of its hit show Survivor, on its own website CBS.com. Till now, show downloads were on sale on third-party services like iTunes and Google Video Store.
The $1.99 an episode will be available shortly after midnight following its west coast broadcast on CBS. Customers will be able to view paid-for episodes anytime up to 24 hours from the time they are ordered. The episodes will be available through June 2006.
Reuters: The company said it plans to share an undisclosed portion of the revenue with broadcast affiliate stations, as it has done with other new media deals.
