What Content Will Japanese Wireless Subs Buy?

There’s some interesting figures here from Tokyo-based online market researcher Info Plant, which recently polled 6,366 Japanese men and women regarding their wireless content-purchase habits. The survey found that 44 percent of respondents buy ringtones, 33 percent buy games, 27 percent buy “music, movies and entertainment”, and 23 percent buy “Chaku-uta ring songs”. That’s almost one in four mobile users buying full-track songs on their mobiles…
Just as interesting is where Japanese are buying their mobile content: 66 percent buy content from their service provider, but there is “an exodus to other providers”. Strangely, 35 percent reported buying content from an e-mail solicitation (I hope that’s not refering to spam) while 25 percent purchased via ads read in books and magazines.
