Boston.com: Product Manager, Search, Boston

Boston.com is looking for an experienced candidate with strong business skills and product development background to manage search on Boston.com.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in the search category, as well as a strong understanding of the media or publishing industries. The ideal candidate will have an intimate knowledge of what makes Boston unique, and will be passionate about the city and the surrounding region. We are looking for an individual with a creative flair who can bring a practical business vision about how best to leverage the medium, technology, and the distributed Web. This position calls for a self-starter who is comfortable leading cross-functional teams and who is ready to work in a dynamic environment at an innovative company.

Responsibilities:

– Create a vision and product strategy for search on Boston.com, including user needs, business objectives and competitive positioning

– Develop business relationships with third party companies for technologies, applications and content that need to be integrated into the search experience.

– Manage cross-functional teams (editorial, marketing, IT, design, sales, etc.) during product development lifecycle and in the implementation of ongoing priorities

– Manage search category P&L and all other relevant section performance metrics (profitability, traffic, retention, etc.) and communicate to key stakeholders and senior management on monthly basis.

– Translate metrics into recommended improvements and enhancements to the consumer and advertiser experiences

– Collaborate with editorial staff to optimize functionality and user experience.

– Collaborate with sales to develop new revenue generating products and ad positions.

– Collaborate with marketing to develop and implement marketing plans.

– Stay abreast of marketplace and competitive set by building relationships, developing partnerships, attending events and participating in conferences.

– Serve as the outward-facing representative of the vertical in its respective marketplace to ensure the brand and product maintain high visibility among end users and the trade.

– Deeply understand the Boston.com audience and how the site can play a larger role in their web usage.

Requirements:

– Bachelor’s degree required.

– Strong understanding of search industry; previous experience in the category is highly preferred.

– Minimum 5 years of Internet experience with responsibilities that directly impacted revenue or product.

– Experience in user-centric product development and design.

– Well-developed contacts in and knowledge of the search industry.

– Strong track record of achieving commercial success from creative endeavors.

– Demonstrated ability to manage and lead teams, through influence, coordination and collaboration toward a common goal.

– Strong understanding of Internet technology and its effective applications to the content space.

– A keen ability to multi-task and manage the details while keeping an eye on the big picture.

– Background in media or publishing industries strongly preferred

– Previous experience with statistical or analytical analysis a plus.
