DVB-H startup Penthera Technologies has received $6.5 million in funding for its mobile video technology. The funding was led by Warburg Pincus and included Modeo, a subsidiary of tower company Crown Castle International, and ITU Ventures. Mode is the first customer of the company as well, as it tries to roll out the mobile video network in U.S.
In addition to Modeo, Pittsburgh, PA-based Penthera is trying to sell its software to handheld device makers such as Nokia and SonyEricsson, which eventually will offer the DVB-H network in their products. Penthera plans to use this initial funding to speed development and deployment of its software solutions.
