NFL: SuperBowl On Mobiles

Thanks to its Super Bowl XL sponsorship Sprint has scored some mobile content from the event, including:
–Live, ‘front-row seats’ to Super Bowl XL press conferences: This includes interviews with coaches and players, and also the Rolling Stones.
–“7 Days of Stones” from Music Choice: This will feature daily interviews, music videos and other clips which will be available as a free preview, but the expanded content will be reserved for Sprint’s Music Choice customers.
–Team personalization: For example, “Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks team logos — and some marquee players from those teams such as Seattle running back Shaun Alexander, the league MVP, or Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger — can adorn the main displays of their phones”.
–NFL Info: “The package includes: exclusive live access to the NFL Network’s broadcasts; exclusive video- and audio-on-demand highlights from NFL Films; exclusive highlights of every Super Bowl played from NFL Films; and up-to-the-minute scores, player stats and injury reports for the Super Bowl.”
Sprint is doing a balancing act here…it needs to offer the basic services which are expected (scores, highlights etc) in a clever way to keep its current users happy and also offer some “wow, gee whiz” things to bring in new customers. Finally, it needs to encourage current users to sign up to some of the premium services it offers, which is what the “7 days of Stones” seems to be aimed at doing.
