No, not from its Weblogs, Inc acquisition, but separate, in my backyard in Santa Monica. AOL, which has had a staff in Culver City, Calif., for about 10 years, recently inked a 10-year lease on a new, much larger building in Santa Monica, in an effort to develop original programming and drive closer ties to Hollywood (as I predicted in November last year).
AOL’s new digs once housed DreamWorks offices… The new, 82,000-square-foot building will allow AOL to double its Hollywood staff of about 130 people. Some staffers are already shuffling from New York and AOL’s Dulles, Va., headquarters in Silicon Valley. The company also plans new hires from Hollywood’s creative community.
