Startup.com Guy Launching Iraq TV Channels Online; Plans London Listing

While there is certainly some business sense in this, the plans sounds gimmicky, if you ask me. NYC-based JumpTV, an online network of TV channels from around the world (and judging from the lineup, B-grade channels at best), plans to offer streams from five independent Iraqi TV stations, for $19.95 per month. The site has about 100 channels in more than 40 countries, offers them on a subscription basis, and says it has “tens of thousands” of subscribers in more than 70 countries.”

The founder of JumpTV is Kaleil Isaza Tuzman, the founder of govWorks.com, whose travails were chronicled in the 2001 documentary film “Startup.com.” While all of the above is fine, Tuzman says he plans to take JumpTV public in June, listing shares of the company in London (on AIM, I’m presuming). That is where I would say he’s going into the gimmick category…surely it is a bit early and presumptuous to take an online B-grade TV channels aggregator public. Anyway, I’ll leave it at that…
