I’m at the back of a well-attended session sponsored by Nokia. The topic is “Taking Mobile To The Mainstream” but it might as well have “By Using DVB-H” tacked on at the end. Nothing surreptitious about it. A call for a show of hands abnout how many know what DVB-H played up the need for this kind of education — roughly half the room doesn’t appear t have a clue. At the same time, this continues the discussion from NATPE Mobile++ about forms of television and what’s going to work best on mobile. I can’t stay for it all but here are a few comments that stand out so far:
— Salil Dalvi, VP-Digital Media/Wireless, NBC Universal: “Consumers don’t distinguish (between delivery methods) — they know shows, they know brands, they what what they want when they want it.” He said NBC U sees spikes for breaking news. “One of the questions we have … to what extent this business is going to be driven by people who tune in every day versus people who know they have this capability (and tune in the one day they need it)?”
— Ilkka Raiskinen, SVP- Entertainment Products Business Unit, Nokia — “The program services guide is absolutely key.”
— Jon Vlassopulos, VP- Business Development, Strategic Planning and New Media, Endemol USA : “It has to be an easy offering, has to priced accordingly.” Programmers have to be creative and think niche.
