Disney-Pixar: Some Digital Media Possibilities

I gave an interview to a business newspaper about the Disney-Pixar deal and its digital media implications…some points which I think might be relevant in this deal:

– Disney is among the only media conglomerate which has focused on organic growth in the digital media sector (at least until now). Others like Fox, CBS, Viacom have focused on acquisitions as the major way to go forward. The exception to this is NBC, which has been doing their own thing, except for the iTunes deal (well, NBCOlympics.com and MSNBC.com, on the online side)

– The most direct connection on the digital side will be the Disney-Pixar movies being distributed through iTunes. Pixar shorts are already in iTunes.

– You’ll probably see some co-operation on Disney kids content side, where the DIS-Pixar-Apple combo can help create some new consumer products and content onto those devices.

– Here’s a tantalizing tangential possibility: ESPN recently launched its MVNO service and Apple has the iPod…could we see some sort of a combo here? The iPhone from ESPN? Or Disney Kids iPod?
