This is among the first such mobile music subscription services to launch in Europe: French operator SFR has launched a new subscription-based music download service for full length tracks at MIDEM, going onthis week in Cannes. The service has been launched in association with DRM provider Secure Digital Container, mobile music tech provider Musiwave (now owned by Openwave).
In the “purchase rental” model, the user will pay a fixed montly fee and will get the rights to use the tracks for one month. The rights will be revoked if the consumer stops paying the subscription fee.
The SFR service will be available initially on Symbian handsets. Some more details in the release here…
