
The purpose of this position is to maintain a robust website for the magazine, Every Day with Rachael Ray, a Reader’s Digest Publication, which would include information about the magazine and from the magazine but also include new and creative content including: polls, quizzes, contests, content, links to other sites, information about Rachael outside of the magazine, editorial specials such as tips and hints, recipes, interactive tools to make life in the kitchen and home easier and to keep people returning to the site. Person must work extremely closely with the magazine editorial team and must adopt the “voice” of the magazine so there is continuity with the website.
This position works on both the print magazine and the companion web site. This person is the primary staff member compiling web content from the magazine and creating new content, with an emphasis on delivering new material in the magazine’s voice and tone. The web editor reports directly to the Editor of the magazine.
– Writes and edits materials for Every Day with Rachael Ray readers and the Rachael Ray fan base, integrating compelling and creative text, still images, audio- and video-file components and links to relevant Internet resources into an appealing, thoughtful online editorial web package.
Develops the online strategy for the Every Day with Rachael Ray magazine including creating new products for the audience such as digital content, tools, interactive programs, communities, newsletters, tips and hints, etc.
– Works with the editorial staff to create, suggest and execute ideas for magazine convergence packages and to develop the online editorial calendar
– Reads, sorts and responds to web visitor/reader emails
– Possesses online acumen to provide added value to stories initially developed by the magazine
– Ensures that all text goes through any necessary reviews, including editing, fact-checking, copyediting and proofreading
– Checks art/text consistency with print issue
– Writes the web site promotional page for the print issue
– Serves as the liaison to the digital business group
– Participates in editorial team activities and supports editorial team goals
– Provides editing support to staff editors as needed on departments and cooking, entertaining and travel features
– Coordinates editorial-sponsored contests
Writes weekly email newsletter
Writes exclusive web content to give the audience material outside of the magazine content to keep browsers returning to the site regularly.
Learns to adopt the voice of the magazine
BONUS:
– Digitizes and uploads video clips to accompany stories
– Runs live streams
Qualifications:
Four-year college degree; with 1-3 years publishing experience, including coordinating and writing short departmental pieces and preferably with some copyediting and proofreading responsibilities.
Familiarity with InDesign and web editing tools
Bonus: Experience with print-to-web integrated content
Must have prior web editing experience and possess a basic knowledge of optimizing a site for search engines from an editorial perspective
Plus: experience using Teamsite.

Ability to convey subject matter clearly and engagingly
Ability to deliver integrated and compelling stories quickly and accurately, using the magazine’s tone and voice
Ability to proofread and pass an editing test

Ability to work independently as well as in a team setting, with editorial and digital partners, and under tight deadlines
Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and staff
Ability to prioritize and manage simultaneous assignments within a deadline-driven environment
