The Orchard, the biggest U.S. distributor of indie music to online music stores, is expanding into indie movies and other video content, in a move which should give a boost to the indie filmakers.
First content producers signed on include B-movie makers Troma Entertainment, the company behind the “Toxic Avenger” pics, and C3, which distributes the “Three Stooges” TV episodes. British musicvideos, classic sports and toons from Acrobat are also in the mix.
The company hopes to sell to iTunes and Google Video Store. Presently the copany distributes to about 125 digital music stores and to over 200 mobile phone carriers globally, so expect these to be the outlets too.
