When the broadband technology is still in its sunrise phase, the tech companies are busy evaluating the business models and their feasibility from the profitability view point. Film studios, music, gaming and news companies are the primary sources of business and are seen as the ready market which can boost broadband in India.
Besides entertainment, e-governance, e-commerce, e-learning and tele-medicine are the potential sectors for sustaining Broadband. Lav Gupta of BSNL‘s Broadband division says that “we are at the bottom of learning curve. The advent of any new technology brings in certain phases like – the technology phase in which we need time to understand the various applications it can be put to use. Secondly, there is the business phase while implementing the technology that drives to decide how it would generate revenue and increase the profitability.
