Broadband channel ABC NewsNow is now available for free in exchange for viewing an ad (it started last week, from what we know); the current sponsor is AT&T, which is in the midst of a major brand campaign. The pay options remain in place: annual, $39.95; monthly, $4.95. Still working on the details — is this a one-off? An option that will stay in place a la Salon and The Economist? Etc.
It fits in with comments from Bernard Gershon, president of ABC News Digital Media Group, during an interview at CES. He spoke about ABC News’ evolution from a pay-only option: “We’re certainly looking at advertising-supported, subscription, PPV and anything else that comes along.”
