Mobile browsers using Opera will get a “speed boost” thanks to the companies agreement with Bytemobile to make the broswer compatible with “Optimization Services Node Monaco Edition, a server-based platform that mobile operators use in their networks to speed up the browsing experience for users”. It’s not really a speed boost, of course, it’s just a way of sending more data in the same bandwidth. Bytemobile’s servers optimize Web content by shrinking content such as an image, for example, before it’s delivered to the handsets. Opera Mini already uses server software to convert the webpages before sending it to the mobile phone, so the compatibility shouldn’t be that much of a problem.
