E Online’s Webcasting Golden Globes Pre-Show; Launching Six New Broadband Channels

thevine1.jpgAs we mentioned last week, E Online is getting in the broadband video game too, and is simulcasting its pre-show from Golden Globes online…this is the east coast feed, so for us on the west coast, we’re actually able to see ahead than the TV feed here. I suppose that took some doing from the legal dept, or they were just plain lazy and forgot to consider that factor.

Anyway, it is a Flash based service, and during this live-feed, does not have any controls/menu. Also, worse, the video and audio is very choppy and cutting in and out..it is same for me and Staci on the other coast, so it has to be the delivery.

This webcast is also the debut of E Online’s “The Vine” broadband video service…it will be launching six new “channels” online tonight, after the Globes.

Staci adds: I’m a forgiving sort for first-night glitches — to a point. This was supposed tio be a come-on for the debut of the new broadband channels; if I were an average E viewer, I’m not sure I’d be compelled to come back tonight.
Meanwhile, over at NBC.com, the site for the network actually airing the Globes is running a $5,000 contest keyed to NBC Red Carpet Interactive. So far, it’s stultifying — and some of the questions have nothing to do with Globes. … a little later and i can see that some of the questions are using the self-selected participants as a sort of focus group.
Update: The file footage in the new broadband media player looks and sounds good enough not to be distracting so the problem may have been with the live feed. Just watched an interesting clip about “Glory Road,” an excellent movie I saw over the weekend. Tabbed over to the Red Carpet channel and caught a glimpse of the movie’s premiere.
