Responsible for daily art and design needs for NPR.org, the online presence of National Public Radio; responsible for the design and production of news and other editorial graphics and interactive storytelling applications, including information graphics, charts, illustrations and maps; creates graphics for other NPR Online initiatives, such as the NPR Shop and external digital marketing efforts.
B.A. in Design or Art from an accredited four-year college or university or equivalent. Three years professional experience as a graphic artist or designer, preferably in a news or other consumer publishing environment which employed an enterprise level content management system; three years professional experience in Web design and/or graphics; demonstrated ability as an illustrator; specifically experience creating illustrations, information graphics and other types of representational artwork; command of Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash; demonstrated skill using Flash to create interactive information applications and graphics; Command of web design technologies and methodologies; strong grasp of current trends in website navigation, information architecture, accessibility, and usability matters; strong organizational skills and ability to work under tight deadlines; ability to multitask; excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to present ideas and designs to a group; demonstrated ability to work well independently or on a team, always showing respect for the diverse constituencies as NPR and within the public radio system; understanding of the creative proves in a collaborative environment; ability to incorporate both user feedback and design critiques.
