Business Standard: The National Informatics Centre will design, develop and implement a computer aided utility mapping project for six cities beginning with Ahmedabad. The project will then be replicated in Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai.
Very soon a map based on the Geographical Information System (GIS) will show Ahmedabad city. The map would cover 510 sq kilometres, including the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation area and Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority area. It would be a three dimensional (3D) Map. This map will also display all water connections, drainage connections, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) telephone lines and Ahmedabad Electricity Company (AEC) connections.
The inputs will come from various sources like satellite imagery, aerial photography, digital photogrammetry, global positioning system (GPS), field survey equipment, existing databases, census and administrative records.
