This position helps drive the strategic direction of the HGTV website. Under general direction, the Manager is responsible for implementing HGTV’s online strategies and contributing to the success of HGTV.com by generating ideas, developing relationships and analyzing the performance of key initiatives.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
HGTV.com is the leading home and garden website with an average of 5 million visitors and 70 million page views per month. Our ongoing goal is to improve our website–and increase metrics–year after year. To achieve this goal, the Manager assists the Director in development of site strategy and content development (which includes articles, photo galleries, videos and other interactive tools). This position is the hub of HGTV.com. Day-to-day duties may include contributing ideas to the editorial calendar, writing display copy for the website and newsletters, conducting competitive analysis, communicating with Ad Sales, Marketing and PR as well as coordinating cross-promotional efforts with the HGTV television network. May also be expected to oversee the development of major projects, therefore must be able to take a project from idea to launch efficiently and effectively. We’re looking for a quick thinker who knows the online world inside and out. He or she should be able to represent HGTV.com in operational meetings and as backup to Director when needed.
Other duties include:
– Reviews progress, manages resources, and ensures overall quality of completed website.
– Supervises staff responsible for scheduling, promotional planning, and performance tracking.
– Monitors website budget.
REQUIREMENTS
Educational and Experience Requirements:
– BA degree in a related field
– 4 years of online experience, preferably in content (as an editor or producer) or marketing
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
– Strong writing and editing skills – a must
– Knowledge of current media trends and technologies, video production, and web page design and editorial
– Ability to utilize HTML and web content management tools
– Excellent oral and written communication skills
– Ability to manage the work of self and others
– Time management and organization skills
– Knowledge of arithmetic and statistics, and their applications related to budget maintenance
– Critical thinking and logical reasoning skills, including problem solving and troubleshooting.
– May require travel.
