Google Video Store: Launched Now

Updated: see below: The much-touted-yet-till-now-vaporware Google Video Store has launched, at least halfway…the account settings and an option for for-sale videos, even though I haven’t yet seen any for-sale video despite searches on the site. The homepage and individual premium video pages look like this (see the three screenshots)

The video store is officially open with CBS shows, basketball, Charlie Rose and others…I’ll have a short buying-and-viewing-experience review soon.

Some additional points:

– It has launched with about 360 full-length mostly B-grade movies and documentaries.

– For CBS shows, you can also buy the DVD of the shows (it redirects you to store.cbs.com)

– CSI has launched with one episode, and only a Day-Pass (so it is rental for one-day, for $1.99)

– An hour or so long Ed Sullivan Show is retailing for $9.99 (really? why?)

Additionally, it has added a feature to Google Video where you can embed any video clip onto your site/blog, similar to what YouTube and other video sharing sites allow.

I don’t see any premium video for downloads, yet..no use for Google Video Player for now The Charlie Rose show is for download…I’m assuming others are too…

– You can search for keyword within a video playing on Google Video Player, a nice feature..

– For Charlie Rose show, you can download it onto video IPod and PSP too…

– The full screen viewing experience, or even the mormal screen size viewing experience in the GVP is not that great…pretty sub-standard, if you ask me.

Overall, prepare to be underwhelmed…
