CES: Clear Channel To Launch Free Music VOD

Radio giant Clear Channel will launch a test of a free, ad-supported music VOD service next Tuesday…about 2,000 to 3,000 music videos from top artists at Warner Music Group and Universal Music Group will be featured on 17 station sites in five major markets.

Another label is expected to join soon, the company said. Not that this is a big deal: Yahoo Launch and AOL Music are already among the biggest destinations to such free music videos. But at least CC is lumbering into digital media, and the local angle is killer….Evan Harrison is doing them some good.

Billboard.biz: CC will be customizing archive access to thousands of videos to the branding of respective stations. Clear Channel plans to expand VOD to other markets during the year, and Harrison says that such on-air promotions as radio DJs directing listeners to vote online in video “battles” will also fuel growth.
