MapQuest For Lost People

MapQuest has introduced a new “Find Me” service which “can pinpoint your current location and display it for you right on your mobile phone”… it also lets other people know where you are if they are on your approved list.
The service in on Sprint Nextel and costs $3.99 a month for customers who already have a data plan from the company, and is also available as a stand-alone service for $5.99.
This seems like a back-handed way of introducing tracking — I doubt many people get lost often enough to warrant paying $4 a month on the off-chance they’ll need the service, but parents may be willing to pay that much to locate their children. It could also work in social situations, if a close group of friends wants to be able to keep track of each others locations to meet up. They’d have to be pretty close though…
