@ CES 2006: Super Session: Entertainment Technology: View from Hollywood

Not exactly a barnburner of a session and not comepletely the view from Hollywood but some interesting comments about how the sector is evolving from Michael Arrieta, SVP-Sony Pictures digital sales/marketing; Bill Chapman, VP-creative development/emerging technologies, Turner Studios; Curt Marvis, co-founder and CEO, CinemaNow; and Jim Bankoff, EVP-programming & products.

Live 8/Network Live: Not sure if I’ve seen this number before but Bankoff says, based on internal numbers, AOL.com registered nearly 100 million streams of Live 8 content during the six weeks it was available.

Expanding competition: Arrieta: “We’re quite encouraged to have more people come into the business and push legitimate distribution.” He’s concerned about interoperability issues but he also wants to work with as many partners as possible. Marvis sees the usual Hollywood phenomenon at work — no one wants to be first but lots of people will jump into crowded water.
