To heck with trekking to the Hilton auditorium, where they confiscate your bottled water, for the Intel keynote being delivered by CEO Paul Otellini. I’m ensconced at the stylish bar in the AOL.com booth at the CES Concierge Tent, where the WiFi works well with my Intel Centrino laptop and Diet Coke is at hand. First up, the Centrino Duo in one of the cheesiest bits I’ve seen in a while; they pulled it out of a giant hat after saying abra-cadabra. Upcoming and of interest to us: Details about Viiv, including at least 10 content partnership announcements. Remember, it rhymes with “five.”
Viiv : Otellini: It’s “a new partner platform… a combination of hardware and software that delivers new media.” Via a just-posted press release, the launch content partners include AOL, MTV Networks, DIRECTV, NBC Universal, Turner Broadcasting’s GameTap, ESPN, Televisa, Eros, Click Star and the Shanghai Media Group.
– ESPN will provide an HD custom version of ESPN Motion video clips for Viiv; also colege basketball package Full Court in full-screen broadcast quality.
– Turner‘s new GameTap will bring hundres of videos and games to the — buzzword of the week coming — “10-foot TV screen.”
– DirecTV, which is making a slew of intriguing announcements this week, will make its programming “seamlessly available” across multiple devices.
– Otellini: “I believe it means we’re at a threshold of a new digital entertainment era. .. we couldn’t do this without a number of content partners.” Intel says it has or will have content deals in every country where Viiv is available.
– AOL: Cheering from the viewers here as the AOL demo kicks in. AOL’s digital entertainment content — including a new AOL Video Service initially exclusive to Viiv — will be tailored for Intel’s new Viiv platform. AOL Chairman and CEO Jon Miller is on stage with Otellini now explaining how the big-screen experience will work. “Everyoine has been waiting for a reaL 10-foot formal,” says Miller, as he schows the simple interface now available for the Viiv-enabled living room. AOL Music Now will make 1 million songs available. AOL content will include movie trailers, games, television shows, including the new broadband net The AOL Video service will also feature In2TV with classics. All ad-supported. in fact, Intel will launch Viiv as the presenting sponsor of Network LIVE and In2TV, with pre-roll video, logo, and banner advertisements. In addition, AOL is launching a digital lifestyle consumer education site.
– ClickStar: The new premium movie company announced last summer is being launched by Revelations Entertainment partners Morgan Freeman and Lori McCreary and Intel Corporation. On stage now — Danny DeVito,Tom Hanks and Brad Silberling, all doing movies for ClickStar. The first movie, starring Freeman, will debut on Viiv within weeks of its theater premiere.
