Time Inc. is seeking a Vice President of Internet technology. The new role is critical to Time Inc.’s accelerating and highly strategic work in new media, and encompasses well know brands such as Time, People, Entertainment Weekly and In Style, among many others. The position demands considerable experience in the technologies associated with online media as well as management of fast-moving technical teams serving multiple clients. The Vice President will work with business leaders across the company to understand and help refine business ideas, and then deliver on those plans by lining up appropriate staffing and technology solutions both inside and outside the company. This is a very challenging opportunity for a seasoned technology executive to help author the future businesses of the world’s premier magazine publisher.
A team of more than fifty technologists operating more than sixty sites on a shared platform will report to the Vice President. The team coordinates closely with related groups in Time Inc. IT and related divisions across Time-Warner, especially AOL. The position reports to Ned Desmond, the President of Time Inc Interactive.
Responsibilities:
– Oversee the development of the core Internet technologies and ensure they align with business goals
– Oversee the Internet technology budget
– Manage the highly skilled and motivated technology services team
– Help the businesses think through the technology components of new plans
– Establishing SLA’s including metrics, monitoring and performance measurements
– Implement project management and systems development life cycle (SDLC) programs
– Manage a budget and financial accountability
– Participate in Time Inc.’ strategic assessments of how to maximize profitability online
– Identify appropriate technology vendors, negotiate agreements and manage relationships
Experience:
– First hand, operational knowledge of Internet media technologies, including content management and delivery systems, search and ad serving technologies
– Track record of leading organizations toward a technology vision that aligns with the company’s business needs
– Experience tracking technology trends, picking strong vendors and negotiating durable agreements
– Background leading a 24/7/365 organization with demanding SLAs.
– Outstanding leadership, communication, presentation and coaching skills
– Several years of managing Internet related organizations
– BS Computer Science: MS or MBA preferred.
