National Geographic Dig Media – VP Bus Dev, Wash DC

National GeographicDigital Media (NGDM) is a unit of National Geographic Ventures, a subsidiary of the National Geographic Society focused on entertainment and interactive initiatives. NGDM is responsible for Nationalgeographic.com and for the Society’s archive of film and television video footage, which it monetizes across consumer digital platforms and in the stock footage and education markets.

The Vice President of Business Development for NGDM builds and manages relationships with companies to support these businesses. These relationships are designed to generate revenue directly through content value and indirectly by increasing audience for audience for nationalgeographic.com.

Responsibilities:

— Negotiate/execute/manage content, marketing and technology partnerships in the broadband, mobile and gaming markets and distribution agreements for stock footage and education video businesses on a global basis.

— Perform strategic and quantitative analyses and work closely with NG Ventures finance group to inform decisions on approaches to specific markets, partners and deals.

— Play lead role in optimizing NGDM business development relationship with National Geographic Channel

— Communicate and work well across the National Geographic Society to team up with colleagues in other businesses to create the strongest possible position for NG with third parties;

— Manage small business development staff effectively.

Education & Experience:

Extensive knowledge of, experience in, and relationships across digital media and video-based businesses; demonstrated success in cultivating, negotiating and managing commercial agreements with significant P&L impact; understanding of content rights issues; international experience highly desirable; MBA preferred.

Knowledge & Skill Requirements:

Outstanding skills in negotiation, personal communication, building and maintaining relationships, conducting strategic and financial analyses, packaging and presenting information and managing people. Combines attention to detail and diligent approach to work with the ability to think strategically. Demonstrated ability to work in entrepreneurial setting and across large organizations.
