Some major IPTV announcements today:
– AT&T Rolls Out IPTV in San Antonio: AT&T has started offering its much-anticipated IPTV to customers in San Antonio. For now, AT&T will offer 200 channels, though it expects to offer 1,000 or more channels when it expands the service to other markets in about six months. Several hundred VOD movies are being offered.
AT&T’s initial TV service lacks features such as HD channels. The company won’t reveal the price of its service but said it was competitive with other cable-TV offerings in the area.
– Verizon To Offer IPTV in Maryland: Verizon could start rolling out cable television service in parts of the county in early March, though it has yet to announce pricing. Other states that have reached franchise agreements with Verizon are Texas, California, Florida, New York and Massachusetts.
– BellSouth Uplinks Satellite IPTV Trial: BellSouth has signed a deal with SES Americom to test the latter’s new centralized satellite IPTV system.
