News coming out of CES:
– Motorola Launches iRadio On Mobiles: The service will first run on the Rokr E2 phone, which, unlike the first Rokr phone, will not include Apple’s iTunes. Motorola aims to sell the service and phone via mobile operators. The service will include 435 commercial-free radio channels. iRadio will let users download channels on the computer and transfer them (using Bluetooth, no less) to play on their phones or on car or home stereos, like satellite radio.
– Slingbox Goes Mobile: Sling Media plans to launch a service where consumers can watch the content on their home television on their mobile devices “rom anywhere in the world”. The client works with MS Windows Mobile Platform versions 4.0 or 5.0, and can stream live shows or those that have been recorded on a digital recorder.
– Samsung’s MP3 Player With Built-In Music Service Access (down the page): Samsung launched a 4 GB music player with preloaded subscription software that allows consumers to quickly access music sites. The YP-Z5 Music Jukebox will go for $249 each and be available starting in February. A 2 GB version will sell for $199. The gadget comes with software that gives users options to buy music from several sites, including Yahoo, Napster, Rhapsody, and Urge. More here…
– DirecTV’s Portable Service To Launch: Directv plans to roll out various new products in 2006, including its new DIRECTV 2Go service for portable media players and a new HD DVR. It will be demoing these services at CES..more details here.
– Verizon Wireless to Expand on VCAST: Verizon Wireless this week at CES is expected to introduce a major new VCAST service.
– Major U.S. Telco, DBS Provider to Announce Deals with Akimbo: Akimbo is working with service providers in the telco, cableco and DBS arenas to make its extensive on-demand content available to their TV subscribers, and the company expects to announce in Q1 a partnership with a major U.S. telco…more at CES.
– DAVETV to Unveil New Platform: DAVE.TV this week at CES plans to unveil a new proprietary platform featuring content by some of Hollywood’s biggest brand-name players.
