What’s Next For AtomShockwave

A good story on online niche-video player AtomShockwave and what lies in store for the company which has been around since 1998 in one form or another. It has been independent all along, and now it faces competition from the big guns like Viacom, News Corp and Time Warner.

It has to decide whether to keep fighting those giants or ally itself with them. For now, it is choosing to stay independent, and would possibly be headed for an IPO sometime mid next year. Or get bought, even though since the company has seen a lot of money flow in and out, the acquisition transaction would be complex, at best.

Today AtomShockwave has about 85 employees and shortly will move to bigger offices once occupied by formerly NBCi. CEO Mika Salmi said it had posted a net profit for about a year and was generating annual revenue in the “tens of millions.”

In its continued evolution, the company is changing its name to Atom Entertainment Inc., and expanding its old online gaming footprint…it recently bought an online casual gaming directory site Addicting Games.
