Mobile Games Pay Off For Ubisoft

Ubisoft‘s mobile subsidiary, Gameloft, has reportedly sold almost as many games as its parent company — although the prices are a lot lower. Gameloft is the fourth largest mobile game company in terms of revenue (in the United States)…
This is an interesting quote:

“The big games makers see mobile gaming as a way to attract more people into its more serious gaming titles on consoles. Casual gamers include a large proportion of women, and the games industry is keen to tap into that potential market too. “I really believe the mobile business is going to extend our business a lot in the future,” Mr Guillemot told the BBC News website. “They will bring a lot more people to games.”

While mobile games may introduce people to gaming and get them to buy a console I think the companies would do better to focus on mobile games as a stand-alone business. It will be a while before the revenue challenges that of other game media, but the day will come…
