Somehow this announcement from earlier this week slipped by me, even though it’s one I’ve been waiting for since Betty Cohen, with her strong interest and background in new media, took over as president and CEO of Lifetime Entertainment Services. She’s appointed Lynne Picard to the newly created position of EVP-Interactive Media, responsible for development and launch of a Lifetimes interactive offerings ranging from Lifetimetv.com to wireless, broadband, Lifetime Games and new platforms scheduled to begin later in 2006. Duties include “cross-leveraging partnerships with advertisers.” Picard was responsbile for the launch of Lifetime’s behind-the-scenes broadband Video Lounge.
But, like Beth Comstock, the new NBCU president of digital media and market development, Picard won’t be fully focused on digital. She’s also been promoted to president, ad sales, from EVP-sales and maintains her role as GM, Lifetime Television. Both should be a plus as Lifetime ramps up its interactive efforts.
Worth noting: this is the third newly created digital media going to a woman in the last week. The other two are Comstock and Comcast’s Amy Banse.
