(sub. req.) WSJ has a special section on technology today, and two stories related to mobile content…this first one on how movie and TV studios are porting content to the mobiles. Some good numbers:
— Mobile games based on a TV show or movie account for 14% of all cellphone games, says M:Metrics
— Ringtones based on Hollywood properties will likely be about 15% of the $700 million ringtone business this year, according to Freeze Media
— One of Fox Mobile’s biggest sellers comes from “Family Guy,” an animated comedy from Fox Broadcasting that has sold more than one million audiotones and graphics. At $2.99 for an audiotone and $1.99 for a screen saver, that adds up to a tidy sum.
