A mobile filtering company has revealed that “Children are just two clicks away from viewing, pornography, adult chatrooms and gambling websites on internet capable mobile phones this Christmas”, which means they’re getting better mobile service than anyone else I’ve heard about. Honestly, first there’s a spate of dubious mobile virus press releases and now the filtering guys are digging in, berating operators for giving access to the Web which is what everyone else has been clamouring at them to provide. The Web is the Web, and I’m pretty sure everyone knows that by now, and knows the dangers as well as the benefits.
They did a test… “The 16-year-old paid cash for the pay as you go mobile without any form of identification and walked out being able to surf the internet for porn, use chatrooms, buy knives or alcohol, without being asked for ID or offered a content filtered phone.”
Aside from the fact that any parent who was overly concerned about what their child does with a web-enabled phone would buy it themselves, they’re touting a 16 year old as an example. I doubt there’s a 16 year old in the world that couldn’t get access to any of those things if they wanted to, phone or no phone. (via MobHappy)
