Google, Sun, Microsoft Jointly Fund Entrepreneurial Research Lab At UC Berkeley

The three well-off tech companies are funding the new $7.5-million Reliable, Adaptive and Distributed Systems Laboratory at UC-Berkeley. with $500,000 each annualy for five years. Aimed at bringing innovative technology to market more quickly, the nonpropietary results will be licensed at no charge. Berkeley is trying to fill the gaps in basic research funding as government funds recede.
