Yahoo’s Next Original Content Effort: Tech Reality Show “Wow House”

It’s a measure of Yahoo’s relative immaturity as an original content provider that every bit of news draws attention. Next up: “Wow House,” a personal tech reality show that follows two households as each spends $10,000 to upgrade their home electronics. (Just trying to figure out how far that would go with the HANA-compliant products mentioned earlier today.) The real twist? Viewrers get to vote on which family keeps the goods.
MediaPost picked up the details at a broadband content summit in Boston featuring Scott Moore, VP-Yahoo Media Group. Moore said the pilot ran $100,000 — cheap if you’re YMG head Lloyd Braun annd used to $1 million-plus episodes. (Of course, ABC usually had some shows in reserve when a pilot didn’t pan out.) Patrick Houston, who moved from Cnet earlier this year to head personal tech for Yahoo, is responsbile for the show, which will be a centerpiece when Yahoo Tech launches in early 2006.
