DoCoMo, the Japanese mobile giant and inventor of i-mode, is in talks with Korean telco KTF to buy a 10% stake in the company, which is the second largest mobile operator in Korea. Obviously South Korea and Japan are the most advanced mobile markets and the move would put DoCoMo head-to-head with SK Telecom, which is another company trying some innovative things with mobile content.
The TechDirt write up is here.
UPDATE:TelecomAsia has the investment figure as $500-$600 million for that 10%. It also goes on to say that DoCoMo intends to provide KTF with the technologies and know-how necessary to roll out a WCDMA-based 3G service, which I guess would replace its current cdma2000-based service.
