: Updated to include “The Ricky Gervais Show”: Mags Sing a New Digital Tune: Magazines are trying audio and video podcasts (Playboy calls them “bodcasts”) as brand extenders and traffic builders. Speaking at last week’s “Magazines: 24/7″, Newsweek EVP and worldwide publisher Greg Osberg warned of possible missteps, though, “if you get too far out in front of all of these ideas and are doing it to respond to a marketplace request… .”
– Chicago’s NBC5.com Wins Regional Emmy Award for Podcasts: WMAQ’s NBC5.com, part of the IBS network, received the Chicago/Midwest Emmy for “Outstanding Achievement for Media Interactivity.” The station started podcasting in April and produces at least 25 podcasts a week.
– PR Newswire’s MultiVu Begins Video Podcasting: Where people go, PR follows. MultiVu is posting client material as podcasts on iTunes.
Gervais tops Apple podcast charts: Guradian Unlimited’s podcasts of “The Ricky Gervais Show” are numbner one in the UK and the US, with some 180,000 downloads the first week.” Editor-in-chief Emilly Bell: “This has established an important precedent that Guardian Unlimited can host the best original content from the world’s most popular performers, in whatever format and we will be building on this in 2006.”
