Philips To Bring TV Handsets To US

This is a funny way to approach the story — the way Michael Kanellos writes it Royal Philips Electronics is the driving force behind mobile TV in the US, and “To ensure that content and content services will be available, Philips has partnered with Crown Castle Mobile Media”.
Philips will release mobiles with a “tv-on-cellular chipset” sometime next year, which will be the sam product as its European version of the phones except for a small shift in the frequency band.
In other handset manufacturing news, Panasonic is giving up on 2.5G handsets to focus on 3G ones. It will close operations in the Philippines and Czech and accelerate the development of a global platform based on the Linux Operating System that is now being used in mobile terminals for the Japanese market.
