Will this prove to be as potent as the formation of Fox Interactive Media? Will this spark another round of acquisitions? I doubt, but this signals a big statement of intent from the cable company.
Comcast, which till now had been sitting on the sidelines of online media (Comcast.net notwithstanding), has formed Comcast Interactive Media, a new division to develop and grow the company’s Internet businesses, including the Comcast.net portal.
The PR language says: “CIM will leverage Comcast’s advanced broadband network and technology, existing service offerings, extensive content relationships, and its customer and supplier relationships to build innovative new online services.”
Amy Banse, who has been serving as Executive VP of Content Development, will become President of Comcast Interactive Media, reporting to Comcast COO Steve Burke, and Samuel Schwartz will join her as Executive VP of Strategy and Development.
