WebIndia123.com: India’s leading multiplex chain PVR Cinema is all set to open three new digital multiplex cinema in Aurangabad and Latur, two small towns in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The high cost of producing film prints, about Rs 70,000 to Rs one lakh per print, coupled with low average ticket price does not permit cinema producers to release new movies in smaller centres like Aurangabad and Latur. PVR would instal these high-end digital projectors at their Aurangabad and Latur multiplexes, which are likely to open next year.
A recent Pricewater Coopers report said 100 digital cinemas were already functioning in India till March this year. Industry experts said, digital projection technology being used in India satisfies the requirements of the ‘B’ and ‘C’ grade cinemas, but does not produce a picture quality as good as the picture in ‘A’ grade cinemas.
