@ Media Week: NYTCO Creates R&D Group

The New York Times Company was out in full executive force at CSFB Wednesday; they repeated the performance later in the day at UBS. Some highlights:
– NYTCO is starting an R&D group that will be headed by Michael Zimbalist, who is leaving OPA. NYTCO President and CEO Janet Robinson described the effort to investors as “an internal group that will concentrate on developing the potential of new media platforms, such as mobile technology, search and video, to expand the future distribution of our information products.”

– About.com is ahead of revenue projections and, the company predicts, will represent little — if any — dilution in 2006.

– As a result of the switch to a registration-required site, Boston.com is getting a minimum of 25 percent over the rate card for behavioral and demographic targeted advertising.

– NYTimes.com and About.com will develop focused “vertical” web sites starting with luxury real estate, travel and health.
