Indians Eager For Mobile Content

Often passed over in the hype around China, the Indian market is very promising for mobile content. “As per a survey, around nine percent of mobile users in India use their phones to listen to music. What is more significant is that about 26 percent of mobile users want to listen to music on their sets. This indicates that a major chunk of the existing mobile users, when upgrading to feature rich ones would ensure music playing systems in their sets.”
Much of the content is sold via mobile stores and cyber cafes, apparently. This is a little strange, considering that India is on level with the USA in terms of cheap unlimited mobile data plans (a piece of information I picked up from the Christian Mobile Radio story below)… then again, the average income in the US is a lot higher than in India. Anyway, it doesn’t really matter how content gets onto the handset as long as the providers have a market (obvious exceptions to this are time sensitive things like news or sports results that are regularly updated, search and so on).
